About Us
Our anointed Pastor, Bishop Dr. Jimmie R. Horton, with the generous support of his lovely wife Evangelist Lady Michelle Horton, founded GOSPEL MISSION TEMPLE of Davenport, on June 27, 1984 in the basement of their home. Due to its continuous numerical growth, the Lord blessed GOSPEL MISSION TEMPLE to purchase 35 acres of land at an ideal location. The Family Life Educational Center was dedicated on September 26, 2003. It, along with the existing building now facilitates a banquet/dining hall, fitness/recreational center, the School of Ministries, and the Early Childhood Christian Academy, also known as Shining Light Learning Center. Our building facilities are now valued at over 10 million dollars.
We are a church of many nations as revealed in our multiethnic congregation of African Americans, Caucasians, Asians, Mexican Americans, Puerto Ricans, Italians, and many other nationalities.
Bishop Dr. Jimmie R. Horton is being highly and prosperously used by God as he leads GOSPEL MISSION TEMPLE. As a visionary, he is encouraging the congregation to grow in the knowledge and application of God's Word. His experience as a certified counselor and a public school educator for 25 years enhances his ministry. His lovely wife, Evangelist Lady Michelle, compliments the ministry as she efficiently heads the women's department as the general supervisor of women, conference facilitator, and host. She is a gifted educator, mentor, and dynamic speaker for various occasions.
They are the parents of three gifted and talented children, Evangelist Faith Carrietta, Minister Dr. Jimmie Jr., and Minister Avery Elijah. They have all given themselves generously to the Lord and His work.
